1650頃まではバイオリンは胸か首に当てて、顎で挟まずに演奏していたことがわかりました。しかし、その奏法ではポジション移動が困難で、ヴィヴァルディの作曲した曲などは演奏が大変なのではないかと思います。
1711年に発表された「調和の霊感」ではファーストポジションだけでは演奏出来ない箇所がいくらかあります。もちろんロマン派の音楽に比べればポジション移動は少ないですが、ベルターリの時代よりは多くなって来ているようです。
では、1650年以降の絵画ではどうでしょう。

100年間であまり変わったように見えませんが、ひとつ気をつけるところがあります。
バロック時代はダンスの練習のためにバイオリンを伴奏に使うことが一般的で、ダンス教師用に「キット」や「ポシェット」という伴奏専用の細くて小さな楽器も作られるようになっています。

そして、ダンスの伴奏の時は胸で構えるのが一般的だったようです。おそらくポジション移動をしなくて良い簡素な曲がダンス練習での伴奏に使用されていたのでしょう。
そこのところを考慮に入れて見てみると、純粋に演奏で使用している場面ではどちらかといえば時代が下るごとに胸よりも首に当てているものが多くなった印象です。
ということはバロック後期にはポジション移動の時には顎で楽器を挟むのが一般化したのかもしれません。
今回は1750頃までの絵画を見てきました。そしてその18世紀中頃には、ある二人のバイオリニストが教則本を出版しています。
ではその教則本はどのような楽器の構えかたを説明しているのか、次回はそこを詳しく見ていきたいと思います。
